Truro, with a population of 12,500 (23,000 with surrounding areas), is the urban center of Colchester County. Its businesses supply goods and services to trade area of approximately 70,000 people. As it is the transportation center of Nova Scotia and the Maritimes, a large number of private and public organizations have head or branch offices here. It is also a favorite spot for provincial and regional conferences, seminars and competitions. A quality service industry has grown to serve the needs and activities of travelers and visitors. Truro and surrounding areas have several golf courses, all within a 5 to 40 minute drive. Numerous shopping and dining areas, beautiful parks, museums, tidal bore rafting, sky diving, winery Jost Vineyards, Crossley Carpet Mill, Intertape Polymer, Stanfields Mill, N.S. Community College, N.S. Agriculture College, and much more.

Truro is an ideal location to do many different and enjoyable day trips from within the province. It is also a 1 1/2 hour drive to New Brunswick, a 2 1/2 hour drive to P.E.I, a 1 hour drive to Halifax and a 3 hour drive to Cape Breton Island.
